St Rock's win St Joseph Festival title

St Rock's Youth Club Calata Majorda trounced Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda 5-3 to emerge champions of the 43rd St Joseph Festival Football Tournament organised by Dramapur SC. Majorda lead 2-0 at halftime.

The Majorda side had the upper hand in both the sessions and did not have to wait long for their opener as Kevin Almeida punished the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot. Spurred by the lead, St Rock's upped the ante and Josley Dias scored the second goal in the 22nd minute.

Crossing over, Don Bosco Oratory were a transformed side and Maxwell Furtado reduced the margin in the 42nd minute. Undeterred, St Rock's went into the attacking mode. Bevan D'Mello, who was in the thick of action, struck twice in the 45th and 50th minutes.

In the 55th minute, Lenny Vaz added his name on the scorers' list. Hanslum Furtado scored in the 60th minute. Maxwell Furtado scored his brace in the 60th minute.

Individual prizes: Best forward - Maxwell Furtado of Fatorda, Best half - Cliff Barreto of Fatorda, Best defender - Lester Vaz of Majorda, First scorer of the final - Kevin Almeida of Majorda, Best goalkeeper - Shenoy D'Costa of Majorda, Best disciplined team of the tournament - Cuncolim Union.

St Rock's bagged a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and the winners' trophy while Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda got richer by Rs 40,000 and were presented the runners-up trophy.

Fr Agnelo Pinheiro, Parish Priest of St Joseph Church, Dramapur was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of other guests, Antonio Pango, interim president of GFA, Piedade Mascarenhas, organising committee chairman, Seby Soares, organising committee secretary.
