Perpetual Succour Convent High School, Navelim, Salcete will take on St Xavier's H/S Lupungutu, West Singhbhum, Jharkhand today in their opening pool G match of the Subroto Mukerjee Under-15 tournament in Bengaluru.
The other teams in the group are St Stephen's School, Chandigarh and The Air Force School (TAFS), New Delhi. The Navelim school play their next two matches on August 20 and 21.
Goa has two teams in the competition -- the second one being 01 Goa Battalion NCC, which qualified after winning the Karnataka & Goa NCC Directorate NCC qualifiers held at St Paul’s High School, in Belagavi.
The NCC team comprises cadets from schools that were eliminated in earlier rounds of the State Subroto Cup competition or from remote areas of Goa, such as Keri, Satteri, Marcela, and Bicholim, where schools did not participate in the tournament.
“It's a strong group. Let's see how our players perform. It will be tough matches, we will aim for a victory,” said coach Ramesh Vhonnali, a physical education teacher at Loyola High School Margao.
The NCC team will be featuring in Pool A and will take on Maharana Pratap Sports College, Raipur, Dehradun, Uttarakhand in the first match today and will play their next two matches on August 20 and 21. The other teams in the group are N.N.M.H.S.S. Chelembra Malappuram, Kerala and Army Boys Sports Coy, Bengaluru.
