An engaging evening of storytelling, reflection, and community spirit unfolded at as sports enthusiasts and readers gathered for the launch of “Chasing Challenges – The Real Hockey Village India Story” by Andrea Thumshirn.

Andrea Thumshirn, a former hockey player from Berlin, shared insights into her remarkable journey of building a hockey academy and school in rural Rajasthan. Her memoir chronicles the challenges she faced — from navigating cultural barriers to overcoming corruption and logistical hurdles — all while striving to create opportunities for underprivileged youth through sport.

The discussion was skillfully moderated by Nathaniel da Costa, Director at the Forca Goa Foundation. The book highlights the creation of “Hockey Village India,” a grassroots initiative that has grown into a beacon of hope for many young athletes in Rajasthan. Beyond her work there, Thumshirn has also contributed to community efforts in Goa, including supporting Covid-19 frontline workers.

The evening concluded on a warm and reflective note, leaving attendees inspired by the transformative power of sport and the impact of one individual’s determination to build futures from the ground up.
