United Boys of Ambaulim clinched the 19th Chinchinim-Deussua Village Panchayat Cup by defeating Canacona SCC 2-0 in a thrilling final at CRC Ground, Chinchinim, on Sunday.
Ambaulim’s Visiton Fernandes sent in a precise cross from the right flank, which Cyril Dias expertly converted to give United Boys a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Despite several scoring opportunities in the second half from Ambaulim’s Sowell Fernandes and Alex Fernandes, and Canacona’s Mehboob and Ronaldo Oliveira, the score remained unchanged until the closing stages.
Cyril Dias sealed the victory with a second goal from a corner, securing the championship for United Boys of Ambaulim.
The Man of the Final award went to Cyril Dias, while Fr. Agnelo YSC Paroda was named the Best Losing Team of the tournament.
The prizes were presented by Eng. Cruz Silva, MLA of Velim Constituency, in the presence of dignitaries including Julio Fernandes (ZP Velim), Frank Viegas (Sarpanch, VP Chinchinim Deussa), Valentino Baretto (former Sarpanch, VP Deussa), Newton Leitao (Sports Secretary, CRC), Fr. Alex D’Souza (Parish Priest, Our Lady of Hope Church), and club officials.
