Uguem Rising beat St Anthony’s Sports Club of Assolda 5-3 via the tiebreaker to emerge champions in the Fr Agnelo YSC inter-village football tournament played at Paroda ground on Sunday.
The teams failed to score in the normal time. In the tiebreaker, Lawren Fernandes, Asiyo Pulyamakel, Marson D’Costa, Etalio Gomes and Mandlee Carvalho scored for Uguem Rising while Rizben Fernandes, Alreach Peixoto and Ridon Fernandes. The winners Uguem Rising were richer by 50,000 plus the winners' trophy. Chief guest, Quepem MLA Alton D'Costa and guests of honour, Fr Peter Souza and Siddhartha Dessai gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up.
St Rock YC edge into quarterfinals
St Rock Youth Club, Majorda got the better of Uguem Rising Club 5-3 via tiebreaker to move into the quarterfinals of Guirdolim Panchayat Cup inter-village football tournament at Church Ground, Chandor on Monday.
The match ended goalless as the teams failed to score in regulation time. The Majorda strikers were the main culprits as they failed to capitalise on their chances. The Uguem goalkeeper also put in a brilliant performance to keep them at bay. In the tiebreaker, Josley, Irfan, Russel, Selfie, Wenchesley were on target for Majorda while Lauren, Etalio, Pratamesh were on target for Uguem.
Perpetual Succor win Da Costa U-14 title
Perpetual Succor edged past Fr Agnel Ashram 2-1 in the finals of the Sir Jawaharlal Da Costa Under-14 boys inter-school football tournament organised by United Sports Club of Seraulim at the Base, Seraulim on Sunday.
Fr Agnel scored the first goal through Jayden Pinto and later Mohammed Toufiq equalised for Perpetual Succour. Sherlock Dias scored the second goal to claim the victory for Perpetual Succor. Fr Basil Vag,o principal of Loyola HS, Margao, was the chief guest, Fr Benjamin Sacramafilla, Parish Priest of Seraulim was the guest of honour, Andrew Ferrrao and Anthony Fernandes, GFA executive committee members, were special invitees.
Second Div: UB Ambaulim maul Varca SC 14-0
United Boys of Ambaulim beat Varca Sports Club 14-0 in the GFA Second Division League at Don Bosco ground, Fatorda, on Monday. Alex Fernandes scored a double hat-trick while Teron Fernandes netted a quadruple for the winners. Dialon Carvalho scored a hat-trick and Melbert Fernandes was the other goal scorer for the winners. Varca’s Usman Sheikh received marching orders in the 59th minute with a straight red card. At Rosary ground, Navelim, Fr Agnel YSC Paroda eased past SWC Zaino with a fluent 5-0 win. Drenzil Vaz, Macloyd D’Costa, Clifton Fernandes, Platini Andrade and Sigvir Fernandes scored.
