In a remarkable and inspiring display of courage and inclusion, 9-year-old Burhanuddin Haaziq, who is visually impaired successfully swam across the Mandovi River along with his 16-year-old cousin, Hamza Haaziq. This extraordinary achievement was made possible under the guidance of Senior Coach Dayanand Patil from Campal Swimming Pool, Panaji and with the unwavering support of Swim India.
The event, aimed at promoting inclusion and breaking barriers, was hailed as a milestone in inclusive sports. It drew widespread appreciation and was felicitated by the Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Government of Goa. Present at the occasion were Jaiwan G.H., General Secretary of the Paralympic Committee of India and Shri Taha Haaziq, Secretary, Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities. Their presence reinforced the significance of creating platforms that empower children with disabilities to defy odds and showcase their potential.
Speaking on his remarkable achievement, Taha Haaziq, Secretary, Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities stated that "Burhanuddin’s achievement is a testament to what inclusive support systems, sibling strength, and dedicated coaching can accomplish. This feat will inspire not just children with disabilities, but every one of us to push past our perceived limitations."
Excited on his success Burhanuddin Haaziq (9-year-old swimmer) stated
"I may not be able to see, but I can feel the rhythm of the water and the strength in every stroke. Training wasn’t always easy, but I kept going because I wanted to prove that nothing is impossible. With my cousin brother beside me and my coach guiding me, I believed in myself — and I made it across. I want to swim more rivers and show other children like me that nothing is impossible."
