MARGAO: Betalbatim Sporting Club booked their place in the semifinals of the 15th Wilred Leisure Football Tournament after defeating United Boys of Ambaulim 5–2 via a penalty shootout at the DSYA Ground, Curtorim, on Monday.
The match ended 1–1 in regulation time after both sides put up a competitive performance. Betalbatim took the lead in the 22nd minute through Oliveira D’Souza in the first half. United Boys of Ambaulim fought back strongly and found the equaliser in the 65th minute, courtesy of Jeswan Fernandes.
With no further goals scored, the match was decided through a penalty shootout. Betalbatim Sporting Club proved more clinical from the spot, converting through Oliveira D’Souza, Elroy Fernandes, Gladwin Braganza and Joel D’Silva. For United Boys of Ambaulim, only Alex Fernandes managed to find the net.
