Fr Agnelo Sports & Cultural Club stunned St. Anthony’s Club, Colva with a narrow 1–0 victory to book their place in the quarterfinals of the Cavelossim Panchayat Cup 2026. The tournament is organized by Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim and the match was played at the Fr. Druston and Wellington Ground, Cavelossim.
Both teams adopted an attacking approach right from the start, but the Paroda-based side displayed better skill and passing throughout the game. The decisive moment came in the 35th minute when Pratik Gaunkar netted the all-important goal with a curling shot from the edge of the box, leaving the Colva goalkeeper with no chance.
In the second half, St. Anthony’s Club pushed hard for an equalizer and came close through Riston Gomes, but the Paroda defense stood firm. Tempers flared towards the end, with referee Raja Pir issuing yellow cards to players from both teams for unsporting behavior.
Earlier, Fr. Ubaldo Fernandes blessed two newly constructed dressing rooms equipped with modern shower and toilet facilities for the players.
The 2026 Cavelossim Village Panchayat Cup was officially inaugurated by Sarpanch Dixon Vaz in the presence of Deputy Sarpanch Mrs. Delfina Luis and other panch members. The tournament is sponsored by the Village Panchayat of Cavelossim and organized by Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim.
