Café Bhonsle open account; Priority, Gomanchal and Avengers register second wins

The third edition of the GVCA Veterans Cricket Tournament, organised by the Goa Veterans Cricket Association, saw Priority Titans, Gomanchal Warriors, Desserts & More Avengers, and Café Bhonsle notch victories on Friday at Porvorim and Chicalim grounds.

At the GCA Ground, Porvorim, Priority Titans chased down Cricket Corner’s 161/8 in 20 overs with ease, reaching 162/7 in 18.4 overs. Sagar Parsekar top-scored with 58, supported by Punaji Kalangutkar (30) and Agharkar Salil (29). Bowling for Cricket Corner, Sandesh Thakur (2/38), Mukhtiar Kadri (2/28) and Agharkar Salil (2/18) tried in vain. Salil’s all-round effort earned him the Man of the Match award.

In another Porvorim clash, Gomanchal Warriors posted 185/9 in 20 overs against RMK Eleven, who were bundled out for 151 in 19.1 overs. Sandesh Pandre (54), Vishal Sawant (38) and Sanjay Dabholkar (36) guided the Warriors’ innings, while Rajendra Dabholkar starred with 4/23 for Gomanchal. Dabholkar’s performance earned him the Man of the Match award.

At the SAG Ground, Chicalim, Desserts & More Avengers overcame Vasco Warriors 119/116 in a close encounter. Raju B. (21), Pritesh Naik (24) and Naresh Assoldehar (23) contributed with the bat, while Chetan Mardolkar’s sensational 5/14 with the ball sealed the win and saw him named Man of the Match.

Meanwhile, Café Bhonsle recorded their first win of the tournament, defeating Mallikarjun Veterans 115/6 to 83 all out. Sagar Kore starred with both bat and ball, scoring 48 and taking 4/14, while Chandrakant Ghadi contributed 41 runs. Kore was duly awarded Man of the Match.

The awards at Porvorim were presented by GCA Secretary Tulshidas Shetye and former treasurer Akbar Mulla, while at Chicalim, the honours were handed over by Yashpal Negi and Rizwan Khan.
