Goa is sharpening its focus on Russia, the largest and high-spending international source market, as a 37-member delegation from the country began a week-long familiarisation visit on Thursday.

The outreach, tourism officials on Friday said, is the State’s attempt to deepen ties with Russian tour operators and travellers.

Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte said Russia continues to be central to Goa’s international tourism profile. “Goa shares a very warm and longstanding relationship with the Russian market. We value this continued trust and interest, and we are committed to strengthening this connection. Our focus remains on ensuring that every traveller enjoys a safe, pleasant and memorable stay,” he said.

Officials stressed that Russian travellers have remained loyal to Goa over the years, contributing substantially to hotel occupancy, charter operations and local businesses. “Russian travellers have consistently shown deep appreciation for Goa’s culture, hospitality and lifestyle,” Director Kedar Naik told the delegation.

Tour operator veteran and TCI–SITA COO Ernest Dias said arrivals from Ekaterinburg and Moscow are expected to remain strong through the season, adding that the Russian market has historically shown higher per-capita spending compared to other European segments.

The tourism officials also delivered a detailed presentation on Goa’s tourism offerings — from culture and cuisine to wellness, adventure and premium hospitality — to help Russian partners curate diversified itineraries beyond beach-centric travel.

“The delegation will spend seven days exploring experiences across Goa, including spice plantations and other curated attractions... the visit forms part of a broader push to strengthen Goa’s international outreach and consolidate its lead in the Russian market ahead of the peak season,” the department said.
