Cumborda Sports Club stormed into the quarterfinals of the 2nd Caniza Peixoto Memorial Football Tournament with a dominant 5-1 victory over Jolly Boys of Sinaibhag, in a match played on Thursday at the St. Alex Church ground, Curtorim. The tournament is organized by Black Arrow Boys Agxem Sports Club.
Mackson opened the scoring in the fifth minute with a stunning 30-yard curler that found the top corner of the net. He doubled the lead in the 25th minute, giving Cumborda a comfortable 2-0 advantage at halftime.
Sinaibhag had a chance to pull one back before the break, but Anthony Cardozo's shot flew just over the crossbar.
The second half saw Cumborda continue their attacking momentum. Goalkeeper Jhonson Bogot made a crucial save early on, denying Ryan Rodrigues’ powerful effort from the right flank and pushing it out for a corner.
Cumborda then stepped up their game, scoring three more goals through Rio (40’), Roy (49’), and Alvito (52’). Sinaibhag managed to reduce the deficit in the 60th minute with a well-executed header by Gilbert Pereira, but it was too little, too late.
For his exceptional two-goal performance and overall impact, Mackson of Cumborda SC was named Man of the Match, an award presented by football enthusiast Piedade Paes.
