Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim clinched a narrow 1-0 victory against Sao Jose de Areal in a thrilling encounter at the Navelim ground in the GFA First Division League on Thursday.
The first quarter of the match saw some half-chances created but none of them could be converted into a goal. As the match progressed, Cavelossim started to assert their dominance and created some good opportunities to take the lead. However, their efforts were thwarted by a resolute Sao Jose de Areal defence. In the added-on time of the first half, the Cavelossim side were awarded a penalty after a foul inside the box. Charles Miranda stepped up and converted it. The goal turned out to be the match-winner.
In another match played at Betalbatim ground, Cuncolim Union and Youth Club of Manora played out a goalless draw. The match was evenly contested, with both teams creating opportunities to score. However, neither team could find the back of the net, and the match ended in a stalemate. The match saw some heated moments as Manora’s Pravin Rathod and Cuncolim’s Caitan Viegas were booked by the referee.
