Former Sesa Goa goalkeeper Irineu Gomes passes away

MARGAO: The football fraternity in Goa has expressed deep sorrow over the untimely demise of former Sesa Goa goalkeeper Irineu Gomes, who passed away earlier on Wednesday.

A respected figure in Goan football circles, Gomes is survived by his wife Linda, daughter Tina and son Joyel.

Goa Football Association Senior Vice-President Anthony 'Pango' Fernandes conveyed his condolences, saying, “It is sad to hear that Irineu Gomes is no more. I share the grief of his family and friends during this difficult time.”

Technical Director of Gokulam Kerala FC, Derrick Pereira, recalled his association with Gomes over the years. “I watched and met him several times during his days with Sesa Goa and later during veterans' games at Don Bosco, Panjim. He was a very friendly human being. May his soul rest in peace,” said Pereira.

Former India striker Francis D'Souza remembered Gomes as a valued teammate. “Sad news. May his soul find eternal bliss in God's kingdom. We were teammates when we won the Bandodkar Gold Trophy for Panvel Sports Club,” he said.
