MARGAO: Guardian Angel Sports Club sealed a commanding 2-0 victory over St Sebastian Sports Club, Mapusa, to secure their place in the quarterfinals of the 27th Holy Cross Inter-Village Football Tournament at Vodlemoll Kakoda.
From the opening whistle, Guardian Angel SC asserted their dominance, controlling possession and creating several early chances. Though they missed a few opportunities, their attacking pressure eventually paid off.
The breakthrough arrived in the 24th minute, when Reagon Costa capitalized on a loose ball inside the box, slotting home a composed finish to give Guardian Angel a deserved 1-0 lead going into halftime.
St Sebastian SC came out stronger in the second half, pressing hard for an equalizer. Despite several promising forward moves, their attackers failed to convert chances and were repeatedly denied by Guardian Angel's organized defense.
Guardian Angel made them pay in the 61st minute, when Velroy produced a moment of brilliance. Picking up the ball beyond the halfway line, he dribbled past multiple defenders and the goalkeeper before firing in a powerful left-footed strike to make it 2-0.
St Sebastian SC continued to push but were unable to penetrate the resilient backline of Guardian Angel.
