MARGAO
Margao Sports Club cruised into the quarterfinals of the 17th St. Anthony Festival Cup 2025, thrashing Carmona Sports Club 6-0 in a one-sided encounter held at Moll Ground, Assolda, on Monday. The tournament is organized by St. Anthony Sports Club Assolda.
The match began under challenging conditions, with continuous rain making ball control difficult for both sides. Despite the slippery surface, Margao broke the deadlock in the 16th minute when Alfred Noronha rose above the defense to head home the opener.
Carmona responded with a threatening effort from Kayne Cardozo, whose powerful strike was brilliantly tipped over the bar by Karol Soares, Margao’s alert goalkeeper. The score remained 1-0 in Margao's favor at halftime.
The second half, however, was all Margao. Hanshlum Furtado stole the show with a sensational hat-trick, netting in the 33rd, 35th, and 46th minutes to take the game beyond Carmona’s reach. Clencio Pinto and Sarineo Fernandes added to the tally, rounding off an emphatic win.
For his outstanding performance, Hanshlum Furtado was named Man of the Match, with the award presented by Custodio Fernandes, Sarpanch of Village Panchayat Assolda.
