St Anthony SC of Assolda edged past Sao Jose de Areal SC in the final of the 42nd Areal Panchayat Cup inter-village football tournament at Padribhat ground on Sunday.
Both Alvito Moura of Areal SC and Roston Costa of Assolda missed scoring opportunities in the first half. The winning goal for St Anthony SC Assolda was scored by Alton Vaz in the second half.
Individual prizes were awarded as follows: first scorer of the final – Alton Vaz (St Anthony SC Assolda), best defender of the final – Bersal Viegas (Areal SC), upcoming player of the tournament – Josley Gomes (Areal SC), best goalkeeper of the final – Oswin Rodrigues (St Anthony SC Assolda), best half of the final – David Colaco (Areal SC), best goalkeeper of the tournament – Josley Gomes (Areal SC), and best disciplined team of the tournament – United Boys of Ambaulim.
The prizes were presented by Cruz Silva, MLA of Velim constituency, in the presence of Fr Damaciano Carvalho, parish priest of St Joseph Church; Michelle Rebello, ZP member of Curtorim; Clafacio Dias, former MLA; Fr Slater Alemao; Moreno Rebello; and Anuradha Sarang, vice-president of Areal Panchayat, along with other dignitaries and club officials.
