MARGAO: St Sebastian Youth Club Murida, Fatorda edged past St Anthony FC Assolda 5-4 via the tiebreaker to storm into the semifinals of the Assumpta Cup 26 football tournament played at the Sarzora ground on Friday.
St Sebastian YC Murida took an early lead in the 11th minute through Clencio Pinto, who found the back of the net to put his side ahead.
St Anthony FC Assolda responded soon after as Fezer Gomes struck from long range, giving the Murida goalkeeper no chance and restoring parity. The teams went into halftime locked at 1-1.
In the second half, both sides continued to press forward. Clencio Pinto scored his second goal of the match for St Sebastian, while Fezer Gomes once again replied for St Anthony to make it 2-2 and force the match into a penalty shootout.
In the tiebreaker, St Sebastian YC Murida held their nerve to register a 5-4 victory and secure a place in the semifinals. St Sebastian YC Murida, Fatorda will now face Shiroda Youth Club in the semifinal on May 10.
The Man of the Match award was presented to Adriano Gomes by Xavier Lopes, Assistant Parish Priest of Sarzora Church.
