St Sebastian Youth Club, Murida-Fatorda booked a place in the semifinals of the UCT Trophy after defeating hosts United Club Telaulim 2-0 at the Government Primary School ground, Telaulim, on Sunday.
The match was closely contested, with United Club creating early chances. Rohan Pereira sent a long pass to Meliston Dias, who failed to beat the goalkeeper, while Cliff Barreto’s 30-yard strike was punched out for a corner by Telaulim goalkeeper Geet Gupta before the break.
St Sebastian took the lead in the 20th minute when Edison Dias’ powerful shot deflected off the Telaulim defence and found the net, giving his side a 1-0 advantage at half-time.
After the resumption, St Sebastian missed an opportunity to extend their lead when Meviton Barbosa, set up by Glen Fernandes, shot wide. United responded through Mark Gomes, whose cross found unmarked Clinton Niasso, but his effort deflected off Subert Colaco and went out of play.
St Sebastian eventually doubled their lead as Edison fired from the edge of the box to beat both the goalkeeper and the defence, completing his brace.
Somesh Bandekar presented the man-of-the-match award to Edison Dias of St Sebastian Youth Club.
