Goa Football Association (GFA) has suspended Velsao Sports and Cultural Club coach Eban Mesquita for slapping the referee after the coach was red-carded during the Goa Pro League match against Vasco SC on Wednesday.
"Mr Eban Mesquita, the Coach of Velsao Sports and Cultural Club was shown the Red Card by the Referee during the match between Velsao SCC and Vasco Sports Club on 29.3.23 at Nagao Ground, for abusive and filthy language after which Mr Eban Mesquita threw water bottles on the Referee and further slapped him," the GFA said in a statement.
"For this act, Mr Eban Mesquita stands suspended immediately from football and all football-related activities until further notice. The matter is being referred to the Disciplinary Committee of GFA for action deemed fit as per the Disciplinary Code of GFA," the statement read.
Vagator PY edge Bidesh XI 1-0
Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club recorded a narrow 1-0 win over Bidesh XI Sports Club in the GFA Second Division League at Sirsaim ground, on Thursday. Neither side was able to score in the first session. Dawson Costa scored the lone goal in the 51st minute to give an important 1-0 win for the Vagator side.
In another match at Parra ground, PVC Association registered a fluent 3-1 win over Sinquerim SC. At Guirim ground, Pilerne Sports Club won a five-goal thriller against Benny XI SC. They beat them 3-2. At Duler Stadium, Goan Warriors defeated Cunchelim SC 2-0. At Guirim ground, Chapora Yuvak Sangh trounced Assonora United 7-0 in a one-sided affair.
Fernandes elected president of Davorlim SC
PANAJI: Niclav Fernandes has been elected the new president of Davorlim Sports Club at its General Body Meeting held recently. The new executive committee of the club was elected unopposed. The new Davorlim SC executive committee: President - Niclav Fernandes, Vice-president - Vikas Naik, Secretary - Sameer Naik, Treasurer - Anthony Costa, Cultural Secretary - Anand Sawant, Sports Secretary - Manuel Costa. The outgoing president Francisco Dias had served as the president of the club for 22 years.
