The three-day Vijay Merchant Trophy (U-16) Elite match between Goa and Uttarakhand began on Sunday at the BSP Cricket Stadium in Bhilai.
Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Goa were bowled out for 181 runs in 67.5 overs in their first innings. By stumps on Day 1, Uttarakhand reached 107 for 3 in 23 overs, trailing by 74 runs, with two days of play remaining.
For Goa, Mohammad Uzair (pictured left) top-scored with an unbeaten 50 with six fours to his name, while opener Sairaj Govekar contributed 48 runs. Apart from them, only skipper Vinit Kamat (27) managed to offer some resistance. Uttarakhand’s Abhimanyu was the pick of the bowlers, claiming five wickets.
In reply, Uttarakhand lost their top three batters early. For Goa, Anurag Bahadur struck twice, conceding 24 runs, while Sarang Govekar picked up one wicket for 39 runs.
