Honest Film review: GHORABO AMCHO DHONIA TUJEA HATANT

Story

This is a Kala Niketan Goa film produced by Stanley Fernandes in memory of his dad Antonio Vicente Miguel Fernandes commemorating 90 years of his life. Indeed a great memory through a film. Two brothers are separated from each other because of their wives. The father awaits the return of the younger son. With the parents doing nothing to break the ice and maintain cordiality, the child takes up the lead to build a bridge over troubled waters. The initial resistance is met with prayers and the fruit of prayers and good intentions bear fruit and there is a happy ending.

Screenplay

The Screenplay of the film is written straight to the point and the topic is handled with good poise. The sequences that follow are interesting and unpredictable. The film is written keeping in mind the exotic history and the natural habitat locales of Old Goa. The ferryboat ride, Viceroys Arch, Monte, Spiritual Centre, Highway, Basilica all find a place with justification. The screenplay is beautifully woven with these visuals in the background.

Music

The film has a melodious theme song sung by Bony Alwim. The musical component is high in this film. The song on Rakshabandan by Tancia Pires is excellently composed and rendered. There is another song too. The decent use of background musical score effects makes the proceedings of the film interesting. However, given the rich musical repertoire and lyrics in the film, the final birthday song could have been original in lyrics and melody, which is the only dampener in this field as expectations keep rising.

Acting

Acting is decent and very natural. Tancia Pires, the anchor of the film does complete justice to her presentation. The brothers and their wives are Prince Jacob’s cast, Valency de Calangute, Maria Lourdes Fernandes, Michael Gracias and Boney Alwim who combine well in the team. Lawrence Miranda as the grandfather is very gracious and natural.

Cinematography

The Cinematography of the film is its highest strength. Lighting and sound recording is great. Dadadiraj Shirodkar does an excellent job in this arena. Mid, zoom close-ups all shots are seen in abundance, creating the desired effect. The editing is punchy and effective.

Direction

With good direction, a set of natural actors and a contributing technical team, a film rises high in a product. The only glitch in the well-made film and a matter of concern is the allotment of roles to the brothers as the younger brother looks older than the elder one! But then the director playing the lead role is an acceptable norm in Konkani tiatr and films, therefore this too could pass with a smile.

Overall a great film recommended for family viewing.
