With flower crowns, music, games, and a feast worthy of a Goan village celebration, the park transformed into a joyful hub of culture, connection, and community spirit.
São João, a festival deeply rooted in Goan Catholic tradition, honours St John the Baptist and is marked by joy, togetherness, and gratitude. And that’s exactly what unfolded an unforgettable day filled with laughter, love, and nostalgia.
From the moment the festivities began, there was an electric buzz of excitement. Children and adults alike took part in classic games from football matches and coconut-breaking competitions to a high-spirited round of housie. Lively dance performances added a burst of energy to the afternoon, and the vibrant floral headgear worn by many evoked the true São João feel. Participants also brought a Dali, a traditional basket of seasonal fruits.
No Goan celebration is complete without food, and this one was no exception. The aromas of home-cooked dishes filled the air delicious snacks, Goan pulao, xacuti, pork curry, channa, refreshing salad, and a spread of mouthwatering desserts brought the taste of Goa straight to Surrey. And as tradition calls, there was a heartfelt saudé with feni, uniting everyone in a moment of collective joy.
While the event was filled with laughter and light-hearted competition, what truly stood out was the warmth and camaraderie of the community.
The effort and love poured into organising this event were evident in every detail and the participants expressed their gratitude to the organising team consisting of Steffi and William Britto, Sylvia and Edwin Fernandes, Elroy Fernandes, Tamara and Clifford Almeida, Derrick and Anjali Monteiro, Clifford and Sharon Mascarenhas, Rency and Levita Rebello, and Xavier and Ashney Rebello.
Their dedication and teamwork ensured every guest felt like family, every activity flowed seamlessly, and every moment turned into a memory.
As the sun set on Bear Creek Park, hearts were full and spirits high. São João 2025 wasn’t just a celebration it was a homecoming of sorts, a reminder that no matter where Goans are, Goa lives on in their hearts, traditions, and the bonds they nurture.
