Don’t let it fade

Goa isnot just a place - it’s a treasure chest! From ancient forts to colourful Portuguese houses, from lovely old chapels to peaceful temples, Goa is full of beautiful edifices -they are stories, memories and our proud heritage. We click photos, post them on social media and show them off to visitors. But here’s the real question: Are we just proud or are we also responsible?Do we talk about its maintenance? Hardly anyone does.

We all love new things .We often take great pride in launching new projects — be it roads, buildings, parks or even statues. There’s always excitement at the beginning. Ministers cut ribbons, cameras flash and everyone smiles for the big moment. But sadly, after the grand opening, the real story begins — or rather, ends. The real challenge is not starting something… it’s taking care of it!

Goa is not just a tourist destination — it’s our home. Many of Goa’s beautiful heritage sites are silently crying for help. But now even new constructions are going the same way. Why? Because we use low-quality materials, we don’t inspect regularly and we have no proper repair systems. Everything looks good on the first day… and by the second monsoon, we’re patching it up. We admire them from the outside but ignore the fact that they’re slowly fading from the inside. Have you noticed how a newly built road starts cracking within weeks? Taking pride is easy — sustaining it is the real test.

Maintenance is a form of respect — for money spent, for people who use the space and for the purpose it was built for. It means fixing things regularly, cleaning them and making sure they stay good .Just like we brush our teeth daily or water our plants regularly, public property too needs constant attention. Instead of always building new things, we should protect and care for the old ones. They tell us stories about our past and keep our culture alive.

Dear citizens, builders and leaders — maintenance is not a side job. It is the soul of quality. The issue is not just wear and tear — it is the absence of regular care. Maintenance is not a luxury; it is a necessity. Let’s not let our efforts fade in rust and dust. Let’s add pride to what we build by caring for it every day. If we want the world to see our true beauty, we need to care for every corner, not just the famous ones. Remember that protecting and caring for what we already have is just as important as building something new. A well-maintained place shows discipline and pride. It reflects the mindset of a responsible society. Goa will stay a wonderful place for many years to come.
