Concept
A very relevant concept for the modern day families in general and the youth in particular. The head of the family works in the US to give his family the best in life. His only reason for living is to see his family doing well in life. When he calls work a day and returns to his motherland he has to take stock of the situation and face the present day life situation.
Script
The script is simple with an in-depth treatment given to the concept. The scriptwriter being a man in uniform during his career, uses the experiences and probable situations as encountered and gives a great treatment to the script. There are great cantos that are rendered too in melodious voices. There is very little or rather no comedy as part of the plot but the script has comedy running in a parallel story.
Acting
All artistes selected for the characters in the script are apt and meticulously chosen. They combine well to form a good team that unfolds the story on stage. Ulhas Tari and Roma in the lead as parents are superb. Frankey Gonsalves and Sheena Gracious as the errant children give their best on stage. Sheena captivates the audience by her very first entry. Satyavan Tari has the aura of an inspector but his dialogue delivery is loud as if acting in a Carnival khell which makes him lose his naturality. Laurie is great in a cameo of the Tourism Minister.
Music
The tiatr band music is led by Maestro Norman Cardozo and has a young girls band to support him. The music is well arranged and very pleasing and soothing to the ears. The opening song by the charming Sheena gives the tiatr a good start. There are good solos by Peter de Arambol, Saby de Divar, and Laurie Travaso who sings a fitting tribute to his Director Sammy Tavares. Saby returns with Sheena for a great interactive political duet and another trio with Peter and Laurie which is well accepted.
Comedy
The comedy in the play is clean, decent and good. Comedians Sally, Riston, Richard with Antonette de Maina combine well to send the audience in peels of laughter. However, with little or no comedy linked to the plot, the tiatr feel is greatly missed. Riston is the pick of the lot.
Backstage
The sets were good to the eye and good use of the sets were made. However, the bankruptcy of furniture in the house of a US working upper class status man negates the impact of the sets. The night club scene with the police jeep following is nicely portrayed. The light effects were good. The background musical score was decent and effective and backed up the proceedings on stage.
Direction
The Direction was good and all artistes performed to the best of their abilities. There was good coordination of the backstage team with the artistes.
Reviewers Take
A great family entertaining tiatr that can be watched without embarrassment.
