Races, Rhythm And Pride

Just as the birds have their own inclination to meet their avian partner for instance,

the Peacock dances to attract the Peahen,

the Lovebirds attach themselves to their partner for life,

the Parrots have their glowing plumage, fancy moves, and a beautiful singing voice,

Further along the phylum arthropoda of the species insectae,

the male drones bees remain faithful to their queen bee until her prolonged reproductive lifespan.

Even the horses gallop, squeal, nuzzle and groom their potential partner in hopes of mating.

The rather obvious scientific concepts which promote the integrity of genetic purity among a certain species are housed in the two-pronged theories of incompatibility and variation in genetics.

Incompatibility

Hybrids between species are usually unviable or sterile. One possible mechanism causing reproductive isolation is incompatibility between genes from different species. These “speciation” genes are interacting components that cannot function properly when mixed with alleles from other species.

According to Lee et al. (2008) in the Cell Journal, Volume 135, Issue 6: “Speciation generates discrete populations, which serve an important role for maintaining novel adaptations during evolution. Speciation requires reproductive isolation between diverging populations.”

Variation

The genetic makeup of organisms within a population change is known as genetic variation.

Variation permits certain members of a population to adapt to changing conditions.

Genetic variation is beneficial because it allows certain individuals, and so populations, to survive in a changing environment.

In summarising

An aspect which prevails in all of the animal kingdom and even far beyond in the homo sapiens species (humans), that every being inherently chooses a partner of their predestined race so that continuity in life and ardour may propagate unabated in certainty.

Now, here is where the question begs to be answered and that is which race were human beings meant to love and cherish.

Interestingly, the answer though quite straightforward from a scientific perspective remains a baffling enigma when a person begins to realise that the species in human beings is a unique and solitary concept. Scientifically, the classification amongst the races bears no impediment to the inter-species interaction of human beings.

This would be especially relevant from an anthropological perspective because the designated specimen who represents a certain race would usually be compelled by intangible social stigma to conform to the invisible pressures and conjugate with potential spouses originating from the same race.

This hypothesis is particularly true for members of a specific race who consider themselves superior in comparison to another servient race. For instance, in Goa, the Catholic Brahmin race considers it their sworn duty to maintain purity of their ancestral bloodline by marrying their daughters exclusively to another Brahmin household.

Historically in erstwhile Goa, it were the Priests who favoured the Brahmin class to be in servitude of the Catholic Church and thus acted preferentially in their treatment towards solemnising marriages ordained between two Brahmin households.

Rhythm

The dictionary meaning of ‘rhythm’ defines it: as the measured flow of words and phrases in verse or prose as determined by the relation of long and short or stressed and unstressed syllables.

However, in ascribing the significance of ‘rhythm’ to the practice of myriad Goan households who chose to go the 'Portuguese Passport Route' and forge for themselves a path of socio-economic progress in the Western world spread across different continents, all the while they endeavour to emphasise a superiority in class and economic well being upon their return to Goa that is best reflected in their civilised ways and their newly built duplex dwellings nestled deep in the villages of Goa serve as the materialistic projections of their wealth.

With an abundance of examples closer to home, in traditional Goan households, the discriminant selection process begins right from the moment a matrimonial proposal sets the wheels rolling.

In heredity-oriented households, the screening and vetting process appears to be more restrictive and discriminatory. If the mother feels that her husband’s legacy is worth a lot of value, then her manipulation grows even fonder. For a boy or even a girl hailing from a respectable family who would stand to inherit a larger-than-life ancestral house and a few chunks of land, their respective family advisors take it upon themselves to screen and selectively discard the choice of matrimonial partner that their niece or nephew would eventually enter into wedlock with.

Family Pride

According to Geraldine Kelly (2015) of One Family Ireland:

“When every member of the family feels cherished and valued, they experience higher self-esteem which contributes to family self-esteem.”

Geraldine Kelly in her article entitled: “10 Ways to Feel Pride in Your Family Further (2015)” has emphasised that to build strong relationships, establish pride and a sense of innate family self-esteem, the family members must encourage positive emotional growth within the minds of the children and themselves.

Concomitantly, in modern-day popular culture, if one were to ascribe to a notion of pre-arranged matrimony without first even getting to know the person that they were eventually supposed to spend the rest of their life with, then the defining terminology would amount to nothing more than: ‘matrimonial bondage’, a mere contract.

Understandably, every parent maintains a certain expectation for their son’s or daughter’s future and this feels reassuring in knowing that these practices of selective matrimony may serve as a guarantee of continued family lineage among Goans.

But the polarisation of thoughts based on the prospect of inheritance and the attainment of legacies represents a very dangerous prospect because it incorporates the anxieties which accompany preservation of heritage and eventually leads to hasty decisions that are not inclined to the rhythm of a happy life which can only spring from transparent communication and reciprocal understanding.

Existentialism as an approach to philosophical theory emphasises the existence of the person as a free and responsible agent determining their development through acts of that person’s free will.
