CAMPUS | Anti-tobacco awareness talk and rally held in Siolim

SIOLIM: The Consumer Welfare Club and Tobacco Control Committee of St Francis Xavier’s Higher Secondary School, Siolim, organised an awareness talk on the harmful effects of tobacco smoking for students of Class XI (Arts, Science and Commerce). The programme was held in collaboration with the District Tobacco Cell and the National Centre for Disease Control under the Directorate of Health Services.

Counsellor Nadia Dias from the North District Hospital Tobacco Cell was the resource person and spoke about the health risks associated with tobacco use. District Nodal Officer for Tobacco, Dr Nandita Nadkarni, was also present. The programme was followed by a rally through the streets of Siolim, covering a distance of about two kilometres. Students carried placards and raised slogans to spread the message ‘No tobacco smoking’ among the public.

The rally was attended by the sarpanch of Village Panchayat Marna–Siolim, Amit Morajkar.
