2017- the good, the bad, the strange

It’s been quite the roller coaster ride. And as we bid farewell to yet another eventful year, here’s a look at a few moments which made people beam with joy, left them troubled or just scratching their head in bewilderment

2017 began on quite the hilarious note as folks in America woke up find that the Los Angeles' iconic Hollywood hoarding had been given a modification to read Hollyweed, courtesy a prankster. And over the last 12 months there has been plenty to laugh, cry and be mad about.
In the the world of movies, there was the big Oscar mix up where La La Land was mistakenly announced as the winner of the Best Picture, sparking off plenty of jokes and memes. Wonder Woman was successfully revived, becoming an inspiration for plenty of young girls. Prince Harry announced his engagement to Suits actress Meghan Markle amidst much fan fare. Beyonce or Queen Bey pretty much ruled the news space after announcing and then giving birth to twins. The shocking Harvey Weinstein scandal continues to make headlines as it uncovered plenty of stories of sexual harassement and sparked the viral #metoo movement.
The music scene saw the return of Taylor Swift with her new album Reputation leading to many interesting and often bizarre theories about the lyrics. Ed Sheeran gave the world the Perfect love song and even managed to get Beyonce to do a duet version with him. The world collectively grieved upon hearing the news of the deaths of legends like Chester Bennington, Adam West and Fats Dominos.
Bollywood had it's own gossip and scandals with Kangana Ranaut pretty much featuring in a lot of scandals from her war of words with Karan Johar over nepotism, which quickly saw many celebrities sharing their views on it, to her long drawn out scandal with alleged ex Hrithik Roshan and alleged abuse suffered at the hands of her other ex Aditya Pancholi. Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli also finally tied the knot with his lady love actress Anushka Sharma.
The sporting arena saw the return of Roger Federer with two major wins in the Australian Open and Wimbledon. Serena Williams also made news after she won the Australian Open after it was later revealed that she was pregnant at that time. While the men's cricket team has for long occupied the attention of people, The Indian women's cricket team managed to draw eyes after their memorable semi-final World Cup win against Australia.
At the same time there were plenty of face-palm moments, things that made people laugh out loud and others that got people wondering the absurdity of it all especially some strange social media trends. There were also interesting beauty trends like the squiggly eyebrows, nose hair extensions, pimple nail art and other weird things .
