Georgian gang stayed in Taleigao before ‘Ops’

Four members of the Georgian gang which was involved in a series of organised housebreaking and burglaries in Siolim and Assagao were found to have illegally stayed for about three days in a house at Taleigao about a week before committing the crimes.   

Panjim police have booked the owner under the Foreigners Act for allowing the foreigners to stay in his house without furnishing details to FRRO and town police.   

During interrogation, the investigation officer got information that the four foreigners had stayed from March 4 to March 7 at a house in Taleigao but the owner had not furnished any details about these foreigners.   

As per the Foreigners Act 1946 sec 7(1) details of foreigners staying have to be furnished to the FRRO and the local police station within 24 hours.   

Panjim police have registered a case against Xavier Almeida owner of the house at Posrebhat, Taleigao under the Foreigners Act 1946,   

It may be recalled that the Georgian nationals were arrested by Anjuna police on March 14 allegedly in connection with housebreaking and burglary cases reported in Siolim.   

On further investigation it was found that the gang was 

also involved in more robberies in the area including the Assagao housebreaking case.   

Apart from stolen cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 11 lakh, police also seized one rented i10 car, seven mobile phones, two SIM cards and housebreaking equipment such as a hydraulic cutter, electric grinder etc.   

The accused Konstantine Chkhaidze, Iura Pirveli, Lasha Gurchiani and Irakli Tamliani have been charged under Section 454, 457 and 380 Indian Penal Code (IPC) and are in police custody.   

Anjuna Police have also booked the house owner Adik Morajkar of Arpora who had also rented his premises to them without filling the mandatory C-form.
