U-17 Subroto: Fr Angel edge RMS 3-2

Fr Agnel Multipurpose Higher Secondary School, Verna came from behind to beat Ramacrisna Madeva Salgaocar Higher Secondary School (RMS) Margao 3-2 in the Salcete Taluka Under 17 Subroto Mukherjee inter-school football tournament organized by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs at SAG Artifical Turf Grounds, Fatorda on Thursday. Both the teams were tied 1-1 at lemon break.

the goan I networkrMARGAOrrIn an evenly contested match, both the teams displayed attacking flair and kept the crowds on their toes. rFr Agnel broke the deadlock in early moments of the game when Jason Vaz slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot. rStung by that setback, RMS Secondary regrouped quickly and instantly took the fight to the rival camp and neutralized the lead. Norman Mascarenhas punished the rival goalkeeper with a neat finish. Both the teams had equal number of scoring chances but their forwards wasted from handshaking distance.rThe second half saw a different story with Fr Agnel Multipurpose Higher Secondary being a dominant team with their midfielders and forwards working in tandem to put the rival defence into disarray. Fr Agnel asserted the midfield supremacy and blocked their rival’s free flowing strikers. Hayden Jovi gently tapped in a flag kick to regain the lead for Margao school soon after resumption. rStunned by the lead, Fr Agnel upped the ante and fired a couple of shots against the rival goal but it went wide or shot straight into the safe hands of rival goalkeeper. Perry Pereira cancelled the lead for Verna school off a rebound. rAshley Borges spurned the golden chance to increase their tally with only rival goalkeeper to beat. Sshe shot wide much to the disbelief of Verna supporters. With time running out, Fr Agnel swarmed into the rival territory and Ashley Borges who atoned his earlier miss found the match-winner with stiff grounder. Fr Agnel could have won by a bigger margin had not their forwards muffed sitters.
