The Business Advisory Committee of the Legislative Assembly, which met on Monday approved a decision to curtail the business of the Assembly to four days with the new schedule specifying that the House will be adjourned after the presentation of the budget on Thursday, February 22.
Speaking to reporters, Speaker Pramod Sawant said that the decision was taken on account of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s unavailability.
“The Business Advisory Committee meeting has taken place, the business for the next three days has been finalised -- Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The House has been curtailed to Thursday,” Sawant said.
The budget session of the Assembly was earlier scheduled to end only on March 23 making it the longest session of the assembly.
“Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday all three days question hour, zero hour mention calling attention will go ahead as earlier planned. On Monday and Tuesday, for two days there will be a discussion on the motion of thanks for the governor’s address and Ramkrishna [Sudin] Dhavalikar will reply. On Thursday, the budget will be tabled. As of now, it is not decided [who will table the budget],” Sawant had initially said.
“There will be no discussion on the budget, there will be a Vote on Account for five months,” Sawant said adding that the discussion on the budget will be kept for the monsoon session of the assembly.
This session of the assembly was to discuss the Governor’s address, the budget as well as the demands for grants for the upcoming fiscal year.
Instead, after the budget is tabled, the government move and pass the Vote on Account, Bill a money bill which will allow the government to continue spending for the following five months.
