Get dry fluffy potatoes by adding a pinch of sugar as well as salt to the boiling water. Once the potatoes are done, pour the water away and return the saucepan to the fire for a couple of minutes to ensure that they are completely dry.

How do you detect if there is a gas leak without blowing yourself up? Paint a layer of strong soap solution on to the suspected length of hose pipe. Any leak will then cause bubbles to appear at the point of escape.

Inorder to boil eggs that have been cracked as if they were undamaged, add a little vinegar to the water. None of the contents will boil out.

How to test if your butter is pure. Simply rub the suspected compound on a piece of paper and set alight. If the butter is pure, the odour will be dainty and agreeable. The presence of margarine will give off an unpleasant smell.

Revive cut flowers that have turned droopy during transit by plunging them in to hot water. Once the water has cooled down naturally, cut the end of the stem and place the blossoms in a fresh batch of normal water.

To pick up broken glass cleanly and effectively, use a soft, damp cloth. Make sure to throw the cloth away with the shards. A slice of bread can also be used to pick up the tiniest of splinters.
