Members of the Sunni Sahara Trust, Margao blocked the entrance road to the city on Monday in front of the South Goa District Collectorate for some time in protest against the derogatory remarks made by Hindu Mahasabha leader Kamlesh Tiwari against Prophet Mohammed.
A police team led by Margao PI C L Patil later descended at the spot and restored traffic movement after clearing the people from the road.
The agitators had earlier submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Collector, Margao, Ajit Panchwadkar demanding action and stern punishment to Tiwari for what they termed as derogatory remarks made against Prophet Mohammed. The Deputy Collector has told the delegation that he would forward the memorandum to the higher ups for necessary action.
In the memorandum, the Trust accused Tiwari for deliberately outraging religious sentiments
by insulting Prophet Mohammed with a malicious intent to cause riots.
“Kamlesh Tiwari has offended Muslims across India and he needs to be punished. We cannot
hear any such words against our prophet. The sentiments of Muslims should be respected,” the
memorandum said, while demanding action against Tiwari at the earliest.
Saying that such type of venom cannot be allowed to spread in the society, the memorandum said
the Muslim are deeply hurt by the derogatory statement made by the extremist. While saying that
they have total faith in the judicial system of the country, the memorandum, however, hoped that it
will take stern action against the culprit.
