The Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) has decided to impose pay-parking charges to resolve the traffic congestion issues in Ponda town.

At a decision taken in the PMC meeting on Tuesday, it was decided that hourly charges would be Rs 5 for two-wheelers and Rs 10 for four-wheelers. The process to start this system has been initiated.

The meeting, which was chaired by PMC Chairperson Ritesh Naik, was attended by local MLA and Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik, PMC Chief Officer Yogiraj Gosavi, Councillor Roy Naik, Vyankatesh alias Dada Naik, Anand Naik and others.

Ritesh Naik briefed the councillors on the survey conducted between Warkhande’s Hanuman temple to Varcha Bazar and Tisk Ponda’s Court to Dada Vaidya chowk for the proposed pay parking system.

“The second survey will also be conducted along with the officials from various departments,” said Naik.

A decision was taken to cancel the rent agreement for nine shops, which were agreed upon in the auction few months ago by the PMC, as the process was found to be not conducted appropriately.

The PMC has cancelled the process and will conduct the auction again, PMC Chairperson added.
