A lot of teenagers have facebook accounts and that fact iseven more disturbing as they are easily flattered. Strangers tend to send usfriend requests and that itself should be a deterrent for parents to forbidtheir children to have these accounts. — Manisha Chadda

I have an 11 year old son and most of his friends are onfacebook. He keeps asking me why he can’t go on facebook and I tell him that ifhe doesn’t have to lie about his age, then he can have an account. — GauriDempo

I have a 13 year old son and he is on facebook. I encouragehim to use facebook so that he learns at an early age how to deal with socialmedia and that important these days as this is not going away anytime soon. —(The parent wishes to remain anonymous)

My daughter does have a facebook account now that she’s 13.But, it’s not really about the age. If children are mature enough andunderstand the dangers of social networking sites, then it should be ok. Myson, who’s 9 years old, is not on and will only be allowed to have an accountwhen I feel he can handle it. — (The parent wishes to remain anonymous)

I do not have issues with them being on social networkingsites. Though it is a dangerous issue that children below 18 fake their age tocreate a profile, the only way is to sensitise them. Even if they areprohibited, they have different ways by which they can make a profile, sometimeswith fake names and accounts. Sensitisation of the issue is the best method.Recently two days ago, we got emails about students who are on Facebook. Wewill have a meeting with the parents and talk to them about this. -JohnDinakaran, NCS Principal

The permissible age is actually 13 years which I thinkshould be increased to 18. These sites are dangerous. Anyone can send friendrequests and relationships can start online. Strangers can connect with otherswhich can otherwise be avoided. Technology is doing more harm than good. -Deepak Kaitan, owner of Sunshine
