Burglars broke into two offices at the Cosmos Centre in Morod, Mapusa, late Tuesday night, decamping with cash and materials collectively valued at around Rs 15,000.
According to Mapusa police, the accused gained entry by breaking a window frame and door lock before ransacking the premises in search of valuables. The targeted offices belong to a civil engineer, Vikesh Hasotikar, and a marketing professional, Praveen Shet.
The theft came to light on Wednesday morning when staff arrived at the offices, following which police were alerted. A team from Mapusa police station visited the site and initiated an investigation.
One of the affected office owners alleged that theft incidents are on the rise in Mapusa and claimed that miscreants are operating with little fear. He urged the authorities to strengthen security measures to ensure the safety of the town’s business community.
Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza acknowledged the incident and said that while police have made progress in cracking certain high-profile cases, concerns remain over such break-ins. He added that the need for additional patrolling vehicles would be taken up with the government to enhance surveillance.
Police have registered a case of theft and further investigation is underway.
