LONDON
The Wembley Carols Singing Group, led by Elvis Fernandes and Angela Joyce De Souza, brought the community together for their fourth consecutive year of spreading holiday cheer.
The group has been serenading in different avenues and roads of Wembley like the London Road, Cecil Avenue, Wembley Central and others for the last four years.
Children, teenagers and parents along with Santa Claus presented carols similar to the tradition of door knocking in Goa during the Christmas season.
The group went to Jesmond Avenue and Harrow Road (December 13), Cecil Avenue in the Wembley Hill area (December 14) and will also go carolling next week for another three days to bring in the Christmas cheer.
At the end of each session, snacks and refreshments were served to the serenaders.
“It's a wonderful way to bring people together and celebrate the festive season," said Joyce. “We're thrilled to have the support of our local leaders and the community.”
Earlier on December 5, the group visited the Goan crib at St John Road, Wembley hosted by Jimmy and others, where children performed festive and traditional carols including Konkani carols sung in Goa.
The evening began with the children singing traditional carols, their voices filling the air as they wished everyone a Merry Christmas, with residents joining in the celebration.
After the performance, the group served Goan food sponsored by Elvis and Joyce and handed out return gifts to the children.
The event was supported by the Brent Council and the local Labour Party team. Leader of the Brent Council Muhammed Butt and Councillor Ajmal Akram who joined the festivities praised the group for bringing the community together to celebrate the festive season.
“The Wembley Carols Singing Group is a shining example of what can be achieved when people work together,” said Butt.
