Prominent citizens and heritage lovers, led by the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Uday Madkaikar will assemble at the samadhi of the 2nd Lt Governor of Goa, Daman and Diu, Mulk Raj Sachdev, to lay a wreath. He died on December 8, 1964 at 2 am, on the day of the Panaji feast. “The reason why we are doing this is because he died in office, just like Goa’s first chief minister Dayanand Bandodkar. The last rites of both Bandodkar and Sachdev were performed at Miramar. However, the samadhi of Sachdev was neglected and even on his 50th death anniversary in 2014, this 2nd administrator of free Goa was not remembered or honoured by the Goa government, though he died in office,” states Sanjeev Sardesai, who will be accompanying the CCP Mayor to pay respects to Sachdev. Those who wish to join the group can reach the samadhi area, behind GTDC’s Miramar Residency or Foodland at 9 am on December 8, appeals Sardesai.
