Under the aegis of the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Panaji, Goa, VRDA’S Gauncar Higher Secondary School recently organised one-day workshop on ‘Skill Development and Career Guidance’ for the students, focusing on various skills sets and career options, was held at the Panchayat Hall, Raia. The workshop saw the participation of hundred students, teaching and non-teaching staff, Principal Reuben Costa, Chairperson of the Higher Secondary Sarika Gauncar and the General Secretary Saibano Gauncar . Avin Naik, Teotonio Costa, Savio Fernandes and Ramdas Kelkar were the resource persons who conducted lively sessions to the participants through discussions, presentations, etc. The workshop commenced with the lamp lighting ceremony. Thereafter a formal welcome was given by Alzina Fernandes followed by an address by the Principal Reuben Costa. Upon the completion of the introductory session Avin Naik through his interactive session on ‘Motivation and Soft Skills’ stressed on three different aspects such as ‘developing an attitude of gratitude, personality skills and complete the action’. Savio Fernandes stated that an entrepreneur is an innovator with new ideas and emphasised the need to see and do things differently and to be prepared for anything in life. Speaking on Self-employment Teotonio Costa exhorted the participants to develop a positive attitude, to believe in their abilities and to utilise their skills and available resources to the fullest to be successfully self-employed. Speaking on Career Guidance, Ramdas Kelkar informed the students about the availability of various career opportunities after completing the 12th standard in different streams.
