YouTuber and hate speech accused Gautam Khattar was granted conditional bail on Saturday by the Vasco JMFC court in connection with the case involving alleged derogatory remarks against St. Francis Xavier.
Advocate Amey Prabhudessai, representing Khattar, said that the court granted bail with two local sureties of ₹50,000.
He added that the defence argued further custody was not required and that Khattar would cooperate with the investigation.
The bail application was filed on April 29, with arguments heard on April 30.
As part of the conditions, the court directed Khattar to refrain from travelling out of India without prior court permission, and not repeat any such offence.
Complainant Peter D’Souza, who filed the first FIR at Vasco Police Station, said he respects the court’s decision, “We respect the court’s decision to grant bail to Gautam. But we still need a law against hate speech and justice toward minority community.”
Khattar was arrested on Friday April 24 in Kullu district by the Himachal Pradesh police and was brought back on Sunday April 26 by Goa Crime Branch.
