
PANAJI: Noted writer Hema Naik has said that young poet Pruthvi Naik’s collection Thode Bold Thoden Old reflects strong social commitment and contemporary concerns relevant to today’s society. She was speaking at the release of the Konkani poetry collection, published under the Goa Konkani Academy’s Payalo Chanvar scheme and brought out by Sath Prakashan, at a function organised by Government Arts, Science and Commerce College, Khandola.
Director of Education Bhushan Sawaikar, Goa Konkani Academy Vice-President Ramesh Ghadi, Principal Dr Purnakala Samant, and the poet’s parents, Chandrakant and Chanda Naik, were present. Hema Naik said the boldness shown by today’s youth in expressing their views was rarely permitted earlier. “This openness is truly commendable,” she added.
Speaking on the book, Ghadi said it shows remarkable maturity for a young writer and stressed the need to extend the Payalo Chanvar scheme to village-level writers. Dr Purva Vasta of Goa University presented a critical review, while artwork by illustrator Samir Naik was also unveiled. Principal Dr Samant welcomed, Vice-Principal Dr Dilacta D’Costa proposed the vote of thanks, and Sneha Naik compered.
