PANAJI : Students of Don Bosco College, Panaji took part in the Malar Bonderam festival at Divar Island on August 16, 2025. The visit, organised by the English Department, was aimed at giving first-year BA English students exposure to performance studies and Goan folklore. The festival began with ‘Bonderam GED Talks’, a lecture series on Goa’s cultural heritage. Dr Aaron Lobo, a marine conservation scientist, spoke on resilience in sustaining Goa’s fish, curry and rice tradition. Dr Glenis Mendonca, Associate Professor at Carmel College, Nuvem, spoke on folk dances and songs, while Dr Gourish Karanjalker highlighted the value of backyard gardening.
This was followed by ‘Bonderachem Jevonn’, featuring traditional Goan food. Students later witnessed the flag parade and ‘Bonderachi Pasoi’, a heritage walk starting at St Matias Church and covering the Malar area. The programme concluded with a float parade showcasing the island’s traditional occupations and community life. The students were accompanied by Assistant Professors Jude Fernandes and Marina Martins.
