Jazbaat celebrates mother languages at ICG

PANAJI: A musical evening titled Jazbaat was held at the International Centre Goa (ICG), Dona Paula, on Sunday to mark International Mother Language Day. Organised by the Ganga Zuari Academy, the event featured music, poetry, and performances celebrating linguistic diversity and shared emotions through language and melody.

The programme paid tribute to the 1952 Bengali Language Movement in Dhaka and highlighted the importance of preserving mother tongues. The evening followed a spring-themed musical journey, blending Hindi film songs with poetic narrations inspired by Rabindranath Tagore.

Songs in Konkani, Kashmiri, and Marathi reflected India’s multilingual spirit. Goan vocalists including Rajesh, Deepa, Sarvesh, Neelam, Chirag, Papiya, Shodhan, Tanvi, Harsha, Girja, and Dinesh performed before an appreciative audience. The event marked the beginning of a four-part annual series, with future editions planned in May, August, and November.
