MARGAO: St Anthony Marna blanked Candolim SC 2-0 to move to the quarter-finals of the Nerul Panchayat Cup inter village football tournament, organised by Nerul Sports Club, at Nerul Sports Club ground, on Tuesday.
St Anthony Marna started with a strong attack. In the 22nd minute, a header by Pushparaj Mandrekar gave St Anthony Marna the lead through a cross ball. Sidanth Naik and Priyansh Parab of Candolim SC cautioned for a reckless tackle.
In the second half, St Anthony Marna again started with a attacking game. In the 38th minute, Saideep Pomburphekar dribbled the defenders of Candolim SC inside the penalty area and scored a perfect goal beating the goalkeeper of Candolim SC.
A cross from Jonathan Pereira was mishandled by the Candolim keeper Krupesh Bandodkar who was almost punished by Dalesh Pednekar's header but the ball kissed the horizontal bar. Later, Aniket Naik gave a through ball to Sanket Jotkar but he failed to score for Candolim SC.
During the last few minutes there was an argument between referee Milagres Fernandes and players of both the teams for a reckless tackle, which lead to cautions for Bhavesh Candolkar, Sidhant Naik of Candolim and Pushparaj Mandrekar of St Anthony Marna.
