Two days after the government notified stiff penalties under the new Motor Vehicle Act, the State BJP on Thursday made a case to keep the Act in abeyance.

Stating that party is against enforcing the new Act, State BJP President Sadanand Shet Tanavade asked the government to delay the implementation owing to the pandemic.

“New MV Act should be kept in abeyance. This is our party’s stand. It should not be implemented. Awareness should be done first,” Tanavade said.

He also said that he had requested Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho to keep the amended law in abeyance.

The Opposition, too, had also demanded the immediate withdrawal of the stiff penalty.
