‘Register marriage to avail Griha Aadhar scheme’

PANAJI: The State government has informed the legislative assembly that 405 applications for the Griha Adhar scheme were rejected by the Griha Aadhar Scheme Committee due to the lack of a Civil Marriage Registration certificate, which the Committee considers a mandatory document for availing of the scheme.

Responding to an unstarred question tabled by MLA Krishna Salkar, Minister for Women & Child Development Vishwajit Rane clarified that even if a marriage was not registered previously, it can still be registered now.

“The Committee has been directed that such applicants may re-apply under the Griha Aadhar Scheme if they complete their civil marriage registration in the future,” he added further stating that a total of 3,389 applications currently marked for the Committee’s review will be placed before the Griha Aadhar Scheme.

Asked if the government intends to clear all pending Griha Adhar applications without marriage certificates, the minister stated that the clearance will depend on the Committee's decision. He also mentioned that no decision has been made yet regarding an increase in the Griha Adhar amount or the senior citizen allowance.
