After delays and court intervention, St Inez roadwork finally complete

PANAJI: After multiple missed deadlines and close monitoring by the High Court, Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd. (IPSCDL) has announced the completion of the final pending road stretch under the Panaji Smart City Mission. The newly constructed concrete road at St Inez was opened to the public today, May 31, the court-mandated deadline.

The 200-meter stretch from Taad Maad to the Tonca Sewage Treatment Plant had been a major bottleneck, primarily due to complex underground utility works. IPSCDL cited technical challenges such as loose soil and a high water table that required dewatering and shoring for safe excavation, had caused the delay.

Key upgrades included the installation of a 710 mm trunk sewerage line to improve local wastewater management, along with new manholes, house connection chambers, utility ducts, and service crossings.

The agency noted that care was taken to preserve the St Inez shrine and a nearby banyan tree during the works.

With concrete surfacing, improved drainage, and new footpaths, the road is now open to vehicular traffic. IPSCDL said this marks the completion of all roadwork components under the Smart City Mission in Panaji.
