After the Colva police claimed to have busted a racket involved in siphoning LPG gas at Seraulim bandh, the authorities found that the area was being used to stack waste and scrap items.
Both the police and other authorities came across a stench around the Seraulim bandh where the Colva police had arrested the five natives of Rajasthan allegedly involved in siphoning LPG gas from cylinders.
In fact, the bandh played host to a scrap dump, raising questions as to whether the activity is being carried out with permission from the authorities, including the local Seraulim village Panchayat.
Seraulim deputy Sarpanch Leslie Dourado, however, said that the panchayat had once demolished the yard, but the activity has resurfaced at the site.
He said the Panchayat had moved for the disconnection of water and power supply to the yard. “The Panchayat had lodged a complaint with the police about the illegal activities taking place at the site. Migrant labourers are staying there, besides dumping of waste and scrap,” he said, adding that the Panchayat will issue a show cause notice to the owner to clear the waste yard or face action.
