Verna police have arrested a 19-year-old boy from Bijapur but residing at Satara-Maharashtra on charges of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl from Zuarinagar
Verna police sources said they received a complaint from a Zuarinagar local on May 22 that his 16-year-old niece had gone missing since May 19.
"The man suspected the involvement of the accused in the kidnapping of his niece. Verna police immediately formed a team led by PSI Carey Fernandes who located the accused boy and victim girl at Satara with the help of Umraj police station,” said the source.
“A Verna police team left for Satara on May 24 and returned with the boy and girl to the Verna Police station on Sunday. The statement of the girl was recorded at the Verna police station in the presence of the NGO where she confirmed that the accused boy had had sexual intercourse with her,” said the source.
Verna police sent the victim for a medical examination and arrested the boy under Sections 137 (2) and Section 64 of BNS, Section 8 of Goa Children’s Act and Sections 4, 8 of POCSO Act.
The accused was produced to the JMFC court on Monday and remanded to 4 days in police custody.
Verna PSI Pramila Fernandes is carrying out further investigation under the supervision of PI Anand Shirodkar and guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
