Goa experienced a normal rainfall this year with the State recording rainfall at 104 per cent of the long-period average (LPA) for the June-September season. The total average, however, is less compared to the last two years, when Goa received record-breaking rainfall of 147 per cent in 2024 and 113 per cent in 2023.

The India Meteorological Department's (IMD) end-of-season report has revealed that the State received an average of 3,135 mm of rainfall, with North Goa recording 100 per cent of the seasonal average while South Goa was slightly higher at 108 percent.

The monsoon arrived early over Goa on May 25, a week before its usual onset. At the national level, India also recorded an above-normal monsoon, with 108 per cent of the LPA in rainfall, aided by seven monsoon depressions and 69 days with low-pressure systems, compared to the normal 55.

“The South West monsoon advanced over the South Andaman Sea and Nicobar Islands on May 13, nearly nine days ahead of the normal schedule. It arrived in Kerala on May 24 ahead of the usual onset date of June 1 and covered the entire country by June 29, earlier than the normal date of July 8. The monsoon withdrawal began from west Rajasthan on September 14, advancing by three days,” the report added.

The IMD said the early onset and above-normal activity across the country contributed to a well-distributed season. Even as the withdrawal has been delayed in several parts of India, Goa continues to receive rainfall
