CANACONA

An all-party meeting has been convened at the Shristhal Panchayat hall on July 29, at 4 pm, to discuss the government’s decision to create a third district in the State and its implications for residents of Canacona, who along with three other talukas will be part of this new district.

The government has approved the creation of a third district which will consist og Dharbandora, Sanguem, Quepem and Canacona.

Incidentally, there was earlier a demand that if a third district is created, it should not include Canacona, given its proximity to Margao, or if Canacona were to be included in a new district then it should be made the headquarters.

However,  with the government going ahead and identifying Curchorem as the headquarters of the proposed new district, there are concerns that it could create problems and issues for residents of the State’s southernmost taluka.

Goa Forward Party General Secretary Prashant Naik has appealed to all party’s leaders and workers in Canacona taluka to attend the all-party meeting.
